Lead Assistant General Counsel

Our client, a leading electric and natural gas utility serving customers across eight Western and Midwestern states, is seeking a Lead Assistant General Counsel. This senior legal role will be based in Austin or Amarillo, Texas or Santa Fe, New Mexico.

What you’ll do:

• Provide leadership and counsel to management on legal, business, legislation, regulation, and strategic matters
• Prepare contracts, agreements, and other documents for business transactions
• Represent the company before courts, regulatory agencies, and other adjudicatory proceedings
• Manage and mentor a team of attorneys and legal professionals, serving as the primary legal contact for business areas

What you will need:

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school; licensed to practice in the state of hire
• At least 10 years of legal experience in a corporate law department, law firm, government, or equivalent
• Demonstrated leadership experience
• Preferred: background in the utility industry or other heavily regulated sectors
